LAKESIDE COUNTRY RETREAT

OZERO

OZERO is a country retreat on Lake Zhaltyrkol near Astana, bringing together guest houses, a villa, restaurant, bathhouse complex and places to rest by the water.

The retreat is grounded in its relationship with the landscape and the lake around which life here unfolds.

ART.eL designed three parts of the retreat — the restaurant, guest houses and a separate VIP house. Each has its own character while retaining a shared connection to nature and the atmosphere of a country escape.

Guest houses

An interior that continues the surrounding landscape — calm, warm and never competing with the lake. Intimate houses in which to slow down, reconnect with nature and simply be.

01

BRIEF

Create welcoming lakeside houses that do not feel like standard hotel rooms.

02

CONCEPT

‘Quiet water’ — natural materials, an organic palette and a sense of seclusion.

03

RESULT

A space that invites a slower pace: a small refuge for rest and renewal.

01

BRIEF

Create a welcoming country house with contemporary comfort and a character of its own, without directly recreating Soviet aesthetics.

02

COUNTRY RETREAT

AQBOZAT

AQBOZAT is a country retreat near Astana that brings together restaurants, a bathhouse complex, guest houses and leisure areas. It brings together spaces for intimate retreats, large gatherings and events.

The retreat offers a contemporary interpretation of country life, connected to the surrounding landscape and the visual language of the steppe.

ART.eL developed redesign concepts for the restaurant, summer Eastern restaurant, bathhouses and guest houses. Each has its own character while retaining the retreat’s shared visual language.

Restaurant

Furniture, rugs, planting and light divide the large hall into intimate groupings without losing its scale or air. The cultural image of the horse emerges gradually through lines, materials, forms and details.

01

BRIEF

Transform the large restaurant hall with minimal intervention in the existing architecture, making it more intimate and atmospheric while preserving its scale, openness and range of uses.

02

CONCEPT

A contemporary interior inspired by the steppe and the horse as a symbol of movement, freedom and strength. The idea is expressed indirectly through natural materials, deep tones, lines, forms and details. Furniture, rugs, greenery and light create more intimate spaces within the large hall.

03

RESULT

A restaurant with its own character and a range of settings, from intimate dinners to large gatherings and events. The space retains its scale while becoming warmer, more expressive and taking on the atmosphere of a contemporary country club.

Summer Eastern restaurant

A light summer space where woven forms guide the movement of lighting and detail. Layers of light shape intimate areas while preserving the openness of the hall.

01

BRIEF

Make the large summer restaurant more welcoming and expressive while preserving the air, openness and lightness essential to a country retreat.

02

CONCEPT

A contemporary interior with an Eastern mood, shaped by natural materials, textiles, rugs, weaving and a soft organic palette. Movement and freedom are expressed through fluid lines, organic forms, light and detail, without literal ethnic motifs or stylisation.

03

RESULT

A light, warm setting for unhurried rest and conversation, where a contemporary resort character meets subtle Eastern references. The hall retains its scale while feeling more intimate, softer and more emotive.

Bathhouses

Four interiors, four characters and one shared idea: renewal through a slower pace, material and atmosphere.

We designed four bathhouse interiors united by an attention to people, nature and tactile materials, each with a distinct mood, cultural language and experience.

01

A-LA RUS

A contemporary view of the Russian bathhouse. The traditional image is reinterpreted through contemporary architecture, natural materials and restrained cultural accents. The space retains the recognisable character of a Russian bathhouse while feeling calm, refined and current.

02

AQBOZAT

Strength, character, tradition reinterpreted. A composed, masculine interior inspired by equestrian culture and the atmosphere of a country club. Natural timber, stone, leather and dark metal create an expressive setting for rest and renewal.

03

BOTAI

Ancient inspiration, reinterpreted for today. An interior inspired by Botai culture and its relationship with earth, water, fire and the horse. Clay, stone, timber and rounded forms create a warm, tactile space with a sense of closeness to nature and origins.

04

CHALET

A contemporary chalet with the atmosphere of a country home. A country bathhouse where traditional materials meet contemporary furniture and graphic detail. Natural timber, stone, leather and checked textiles bring warmth and proximity to nature, while dark elements and concise forms give the space greater definition.

Country houses

A rental country-house interior grounded in a connection to nature. Natural materials, an organic palette and tactile textures create a place for rest, connection and renewal.

01

BRIEF

Create a comfortable and functional interior for a rental country house that is visually compelling, practical to operate and unlike a standard hotel room. The space should feel like a genuine country home for rest, connection and renewal.

02

CONCEPT

A contemporary interpretation of country aesthetics rooted in a connection to nature. Natural timber, deep green, warm brown and beige tones, textured textiles and living plants create a calm atmosphere. Timber finishes and a white ceiling clarify the architecture, while black elements bring graphic definition.

03

RESULT

A contemporary country house with a character of its own — neither a hotel room nor a stylised dacha. Warm timber, soft textiles, natural tones, greenery and large windows create calm and domestic comfort: a place to slow down, spend time together and feel at home.
